Church wedding---would a pastor we've never met marry us?
Okay, I go to church in a really small town and there is no place for a reception if I got married there. The church has no common area in the basement or anything for meals, a tent reception doesn't appeal to me, and the only restaurants within 50 miles are nasty. Therefore, we have decided we want to get married in Fargo, ND, because our dream reception site is there (Plains Art Museum banquet room). My question is, would I be able to have a church wedding in Fargo even though I don't know ANY of the pastors? It's really important to me to have a church wedding, and I don't want to have a private one at my hometown church and then have the reception on a different day. Would a pastor be willing to marry a couple in HIS church that he's never met? If he did, would it be tacky to pay him out of appreciation? Would a gift be more appropriate? We're Lutheran by the way.
